The Walking Dead Demo Review

There’s no doubt that I’m a big fan of all things zombie. Despite the cup runneth over state of zombie touched games in the last few years, I’m always looking for something with a bit of a twist on the genre. I think this game might be it.

In the spirit of Alan Wake, The Walking Dead decides to go with an episodic adventure where your quest is separated into episodes (which seem to be steadily released and paid for like an actual TV show…brilliant) that you complete over time. If the first demo episode is any indication, we’re in for a fun ride.

In this take on TWD lore, you play a man who wakes up in the backyard of a house trying to figure out what going on in this new zombie filled world. Interestingly enough, your actions are controlled by using the right stick as your viewfinder with button presses appearing in a HUD as people, items, and enemies are targeted. This is both fun and builds a bit of tension especially when it comes to zombie fights.

Based on the demo, I’d definitely recommend The Walking Dead to at least try, but I’m ready to shell out my hard earned dollars to keep playing through episode one.

Konami has released a short, live-action teaser for Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance.

Raiden went from an annoying little whiner, to one of the coolest, yet kind of sad, elements of Sons of Liberty. What an excellent game. Can’t wait for this one.

Please excuse me while I kiss the sky.

I know -Ryan will be glad to know that outfits have returned to final fantasy

They’re not dress spheres though (I’m a bit disappointed myself), but now of can slightly accessorize your character. Your top doesn’t go with the iron bangle you just bought? Just change clothes and go!

The demo of Asuma’s Wrath reminds me of a game that I’ll never forget that I played back on the original play station. It was called Legend of Dragoon, and it had this amazing combo system based on timed presses of various buttons on the controller. The awesome thing was the amount of damage was based on how well times your press was as a graphic of a circle approached a symbol for the button in screen. It’s still one of the most exhilarating gaming experiences I have had.

Asuma’s Wrath does something similar, but not on the same scale. The scale of the game (or at least the demo) is HUGE. Boss battles are conducted between the moon and earth, and most times you can’t wen see the entire enemy that you are fighting.

The controls seem a little lousy goosey for my tastes, but it’ll probably end up being a solid game as far as playability goes.

I finally beat Ico. So I was shooting for the beat in 4 hours trophy…yeah, that definitely did not happen.

Guess i’ll be playing it again. YAY!

If you have a PS3 and aren’t too squeamish, you should download LIMBO from the Playstation Store. It’s one of the creepier games I’ve ever played, and is incredibly simple, but fun.
The above picture is of a spider pseudo-boss. Every time he showed up on screen I’d yell at Jesse (who was sitting maybe 2 ft from me) “I DON’T LIKE THIS! I DON’T LIKE HIM!”

OMG I can’t wait to play this. It was originally on the XBOX arcade only and I’ve heard only amazing things about it.
